NEC 240.87: Understanding requirements to achieve reduction of arc energy in energized electrical equipment.
NEC 240.87 addresses the requirements to achieve reduction of arc energy in energized electrical equipment to enhance safety for workers during maintenance and servicing. Specifically, the section pertains to large frame circuit breakers that are rated or can be adjusted to a continuous current trip setting of 1200A or higher. Temporary adjustment of the instantaneous trip setting to achieve arc-energy reduction is no longer permitted as a viable option.
This webinar will cover the various methods allowed to meet the requirements of 240.87 and address considerations related to emergency power connection equipment as it relates to energized electrical equipment.
By the end of the webinar, attendees will have a clear understanding of the importance of arc-energy reduction and the methods used to ensure safety during maintenance and servicing of energized equipment.

Shore Power Compliance: Are You On The Right Path?
New CARB compliance requirements for the At Berth Regulation went into effect January 1, 2023.
The goal of the Ocean-Going Vessels At Berth Regulation is to reduce diesel particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen from ocean-going vessels auxiliary engines while they are docked. At-Berth regulations affect vessels such as container ships, passenger ships, refrigerated-cargo ships, smaller fleets, and additional vessel types such as roll-on/roll-off vehicle carriers and tankers (Ro-Ro). Maritime environmental pollution concerns have created a demand for ship-to-shore power solutions that comply with environmental restrictions in ports and harbors.
Agenda topics include:
- Introduction to the Shore Power Concept
- Why Shore Power?
- Which vessels need to connect to shore power?
- Is compliance mandatory or voluntary?
- Global standardization
- What do we need to do now?
- Why is Safety-interlocked important?
- Shore Power Solutions Available
